Sequoyah Birthplace Museum in Vonore, Tenn. will host a free lecture on Sunday, March 9 from 2-3 p.m. with Myers Brown lecturing on the War of 1812 and the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.
Myers Brown holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in History from Oglethorpe University and a master’s of arts degree in public history from Middle Tennessee State University. Myers served as the curator of military history at the Atlanta History Center and as the curator of Pond Spring, the General Joe Wheeler Home in Courtland, Alabama. He joined the staff of the Tennessee State Museum as curator of extension services in 2005 and is currently working at the Tennessee State Archives.
He serves as a Governor and Secretary of the Company of Military Historians and was elected as a Fellow in May 2008. He also serves on the advisory committee for the American Association of State and Local History’s Military History group. He has wide ranging interests in military history, but is particularly interested in Civil War cavalry, the Mexican War and the War of 1812. He has published several articles.
This program is free and open to the public and is funded in part from the East TN Foundation’s grant, John D. Grubb and Louise G. Sumner Fund for Monroe County grant.
