Charles Edward Smith, 72, of the Yellow Hill Community of Cherokee, NC passed away at the Cherokee Indian Hospital on Sept. 7, 2012 following an extended illness.
He was the husband to his loving wife Lucille Smith and son to the late James Budge Smith and Cecilia McTaggart Smith of Cherokee. He attended church at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in the Wolftown community of Cherokee.
Along with his wife Charlie is survived by his children son, Buddy Smith of Wolftown and daughters, Angie Smith and Norma Jean Smith both of Yellow Hill, brother, Buck Smith and sisters, Ruby Dobbings, Lucille Winchester, Edna Lossiah and Ethel Cunningham, 14 Grand Children, 14 Great Grand Children and 1 Great-Great Granddaughter along with Thomas Welch of Big Cove who was like a son.
Along with his parents Charlie was preceded in death by his son, Eddie Smith, daughter, Charlene Sissie Maney, sisters, Mary Anne Smith and Stella Ball and grandchildren Davey Lynn Smith and Nancy Maney.
A visitation was held on Sept. 9 at the Cherokee Pentecostal Holiness Church on Long Branch Rd. in Cherokee starting at 5pm Sunday evening and lasted until the hour of service at 2 PM on Monday, Sept. 10. Officiating the service was Brother Don Ensley, Rev. Roland Whittaker and Rev. James “Bo” Parris. The Pall Bearers were Mitch Hayes, George Burgess, Bobby, Bradley, R.D. Allison, Glen Bradley, Dave Wolfe and Bea Ensley.
Burial followed the service in the Taylor Family Cemetery. Long House Funeral Home is assisting the family in the arrangements.
