Sharon Bradley, the Business & Financial Education teacher at Cherokee High School, has been awarded a fellowship to attend the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Euronext Teachers’ Workshop in New York City. The Fellowship Program is a competitive program with limited funding. Bradley was selected as a recipient in recognition of the excellence of her application and the anticipated benefits that her teaching will have for her students and community.

NYSE Euronext and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of Investor Education and Advocacy are working together to help educators teach students about the financial marketplace and its importance in their lives and the global economy. NYSE Euronext and the SEC are committed to educating the public about equities, futures, options and a variety of financial products. Whether it’s to fund a college education or save for retirement, the key to successful investing is to be well informed so that one can make intelligent decision.
The workshop included participation in the opening bell on the NYSE trading floor and in-depth information on the following topics: roles of the Market Professionals, the floor broker and designated market makers, SEC regulations and their role in the markets, US Futures, the role of the Federal Reserve, Options, Indices and ETFs, Listings and why companies go public. The courses were taught by well know television analysts such as Ben Willis a floor broker seen weekly on Bloomberg Financials, NYSE Staff, and independent Markets Makers trading on the exchange floor.
Bradley is a graduate of Cherokee High School, Mars Hill College, Western Carolina University and holds an MBA from WCU. Her curriculum at Cherokee High School includes courses in Fashion Merchandising, Personal Finance, Business Law, Entrepreneurship, Sports and Entertainment Marketing and Accounting. She is the sponsor of the American Indian Business Leaders Club and is a member of National Indian Educators Association. She has also been a presenter and spoken nationally for the Indian Health Service, Native American Indian Women’s Association and most recently participated on a board for the Multi-Cultural Women’s Development Conference. Bradley serves on the Financial Literacy Board and is currently working with other teachers to develop a comprehensive Financial Literacy Program for Cherokee Central Schools K-12.
