The gallery at the Oconaluftee Institute for Cultural Arts will be featuring an exhibition of paintings by artist TJ Holland, an EBCI tribal member from the Snowbird Community, during the month of February. Holland’s work explores Cherokee myths and legends in the style of the Old Master painters.
Holland received his BFA in Studio Painting from Western Carolina University in 2001.
“TJ’s work harkens back to that of the masters, such as Caravaggio or Rembrandt,” commented OICA program coordinator Jeff Marley, “it gives us a new perspective on Cherokee legends.”
The exhibition runs from February 2-29 and is free and open to the public. A reception will be held on Feb. 9, from 5-7pm.
