Cherokee Indian Hospital seeking memorabilia for 75th Anniversary

Cherokee Indian Hospital will celebrate 75 years of serving the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians this year and its 10th year of ownership by the tribe.  The first “Cherokee Indian Hospital” was built in 1937 by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). Services offered in this facility included surgery, outpatient, dental, and inpatient.  In 1955, the Bureau of Indian Affairs transferred the services and facility to the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. In 2002, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians assumed ownership of Cherokee Indian Hospital.

The planning committee is looking for old photos, dates, timelines, and staff who remember and want to share their memories of the last 75 years.  If you are interested in contributing, please contact Jody Bradley jody.bradley@cherokeehospital.org or 497-9163, ex. 6207.
