The Housing & Community Development Division of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Highway 19 Apartment Complex, located in the Painttown Community, on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 2pm.

The housing development will provide new housing opportunities for families in Cherokee. Located in the Painttown Community just a half mile from Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, the development will have 60 units including 12 two-bedroom units, 32 three-bedroom units, and 16 four-bedroom units. Also included in the development is a community room that houses a laundry room, workout facility, small gathering space, and community mailboxes.

“The addition of new housing units to our community is a great stride forward in providing affordable housing for our community,” said Principal Chief Richard G. Sneed.  “Every community has challenges in providing affordable housing and our community is no different, but it is my goal to provide more housing through each budget year based on the needs of our people.”

The Housing & Community Development Division anticipates completion of the project in 2019 with occupancy expected soon thereafter.
