Maney sentenced to 20 months in prison for sexual contact with minor

ASHEVILLE – Brian Dallen Maney, 50, of Cherokee, was sentenced on Wednesday, Oct. 22 by U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger to serve 20 months in prison for engaging in sexual contact with a minor, announced Anne M. Tompkins, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Judge Reidinger also ordered Maney to serve a lifetime under court supervision after he is released from prison.

According to court records, between August 2012 and May 2013 in Jackson Co., Maney engaged in sexual contact with a minor victim under the age of 16. Court records indicate that at the time of the offense Maney was on supervised release for a prior conviction related to a 2009 charge. Maney pleaded guilty in October 2013 to one count of sexual contact with a minor.

The prosecution for the government was handled by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Smith of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville.
