Cherokee Historical Assoc. to host Trail of Tears Memorial Walk

Cherokee Historical Association will host the 8th Annual Trail of Tears Memorial Walk on Saturday Nov. 1 at the main office located at 564 Tsali Blvd. across the street from the Museum of the Cherokee Indian.  This will also be the start of a CHA membership drive.

The will continue along the Cherokee River Loop Trail on Acquoni Road, back to Tsali Blvd. onto Drama Road and ending at the Oconaluftee Indian Village.

Coffee and a light snack will be provided starting at 9:30am with an opening program and walk beginning at 10am. Water will be provided along the route.

Registration is now open. All registered walkers will receive an event t-shirt and a complimentary admission into the Oconaluftee Indian Village. Registration fee is $15 for early birds and $20 after Friday, Oct. 24.  Registration forms are available at the CHA office office

CHA officials related, “Joining the Cherokee Historical Association Membership is a wonderful way of supporting us and our mission statement which is “To perpetuate and preserve the history and culture of the Cherokee people”. The Trail of Tears Walk is just one of many ways we remember those that made such a sacrifice during a dark time in history. Through your continued support we are able to honor the past while we secure a place for the future.”
