Great Smoky Mountains National Park rangers responded to a single-car wreck on the northbound Spur at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, near Beech Branch Road. Heather N. Hendrix, 37-year-old female from Hurricane Mills, Tenn. was pronounced dead at the scene. The 33-year-old driver of the 1999 Chrysler sedan, Corey B. Patrick of Johnsonville, Tenn. was transported to the UT Medical Center.
The Gatlinburg Police Department and Gatlinburg Fire Department provided assistance. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is assisting park rangers with the ongoing investigation.
