HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO THE BOYS CLUB
May 4th marks the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of the Cherokee Boys Club. In 1932, the Cherokee Boys Farm Club was founded at the Cherokee Boarding School. In 1934, the Cherokee Motor Club was founded. When the Boarding School was closed in 1954, the two clubs were continued by the Cherokee Day School. In 1958 the clubs were combined and continued to grow.
On May 4, 1964, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians incorporated the Cherokee Boys Club as a non-profit, self-supporting Tribal Enterprise. The Boys Club is happy to have had the opportunity to serve the School, Tribe and Community for 82 years.
CHILDREN’S HOME PAYROLL DEDUCTION DONATIONS
In Fiscal Year 2012 the Cherokee Boys Club established an employee payroll deduction campaign to raise funds for the construction of a new Children’s Home. The Boys Club enjoys employee participation that continues annually. We would like to extend this opportunity to all Tribal employees as well as Harrah’s employees to help us raise money through payroll deduction.
Your contributions are tax deductible; and you will receive a statement from the Children’s Home at the end of the calendar year showing your total contribution for the year. Payroll deduction has proven to be a very painless way to contribute to the construction of the new Children’s Home that is hardly noticed on paydaybut makes an impact in the lives of the children at the Cherokee Children’s Home.
Please sign up today and help us build a new home for these awesome kids.
WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD
The Children’s Fair will be held on Thursday, May 8. The purpose of The Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. For more information contact Amanda Bradley 554-6592.
THE CHEROKEE DAY OF CARING
IS CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF GIVING BACK!
The Cherokee Boys Club and many other programs will participate in the Annual Day of Caring again this year. This year’s event will take place on Thursday, May 15.
This annual event was created to help our neighbors by volunteering to paint, clean and make repairs for one homeowner in each of our Cherokee communities. The homeowners are nominated by their respective community clubs as being individuals who are in need of assistance.
The Day of Caring is a community service event jointly sponsored by the Cherokee Preservation Foundation, Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and the Office of the Principal Chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, call Deb Mintz 497-5550.
