GATLINBURG – During a two week period beginning Monday, June 3, Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be conducting sidearm mowing operations on both the north-bound and south-bound Spur (U.S. 441) between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Work will be conducted from 7am – 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday and will conclude on Thursday, June 13.

During the operation, traffic will be reduced to one lane in sections of the north-bound or south-bound Spur. Motorists are asked to pay close attention to temporary signs and other traffic control devices along the roadway.

A larger roadside clearing project was completed on the Spur in 2010 which opened the tree top canopy above the roadway. The sidearm mowing work will cut back undergrowth to maintain the established road shoulders and improve sight clearance for intersections and road signs.
