BASKETBALL: Lady Braves defeat Mitchell, Avery

The Lady Braves (3-0) remained undefeated by beating Mitchell and Avery over the weekend in the Harvest Hoot Invitational.

Cherokee beat Mitchell 63-49 on Friday, Nov. 23.  The Lady Braves jumped out to an early lead and led 38-26 at halftime.  Mitchell came back in the third quarter, but a 16-point fourth quarter would seal the deal for Cherokee.

Kendall Toineeta led the Lady Braves with 21 points followed by Avery Mintz with 16 and Deija Burgess with 10.  Other Cherokee scorers included:  Bree Stamper 4, Jordyn Thompson 6, Le Le Lossiah 2, Kaycee Lossiah 2, and Brianna Jumper 2.

Caitlin Blevins led the way for Mitchell with 15 points followed by Sarah Robinson with 13.

The Lady Braves continued their winning ways the next night with a 53-35 win over Avery.  This one started out close with Cherokee holding an 11-10 lead after the first quarter and a 28-23 lead at halftime.  But, the Lady Braves outscored Avery 25-12 in the second half to take the win.

Mintz led Cherokee with 21 points followed by Burgess with 11.  Other Cherokee scorers included:  Jumper 2, K. Lossiah 2, Miranda Smith 2, Thompson 8, Toineeta 5, and Angel Saine 2.
