Great Smoky Mountains National Park is offering an easy stroll through time from early Bradleytown to the present day Smokemont Campground on Saturday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 20.
Volunteer Dick Sellers will share with participants how this area transformed from a forested haven to a barren wasteland and back again. The hike will begin at the Smokemont Church at 10am and will last for two hours. Walking shoes are recommended.
Smokemont is located on Newfound Gap Road (U.S. 441), 3 miles north of the Oconaluftee Visitor Center and 5 miles north of Cherokee, NC. Info: Oconaluftee Visitor Center 497-1904.
