This summer, the Fine Arts program at Southwestern Community College will offer high school students and recent graduates a chance to work in a studio environment in the Summer Art Program. The 3 week program is designed for students who are interested in pursing a degree in art.
“Students will be able to experience what a college level art class is all about,” commented Jeff Marley, Fine Arts coordinator. “Our goal is to help the students develop their skills and build a portfolio for college admissions. In the process, students will be able to explore printmaking, drawing and sculpture in our studios.”
The program will run from June 11-29, Monday – Friday from 9am – 3pm daily. The deadline for registration is May 31st. Cost is $50 per student, with aid available based on need. Applications can be picked up at the Oconaluftee Institute for Cultural Arts or any Southwestern Community College center, or by emailing Jeff Marley at j_marley@southwesterncc.edu. The Summer Art Program at the Oconaluftee Institute for Cultural Arts is made possible, in part, by funding from the Cherokee Presevation Foundation.
