PRINTING DEPARTMENT REPORT
The following information was provided by Trista Welch, Graphics Department Manager, as a portion of the Club’s 2010-2011 Annual Report:
The Cherokee Boys Club Printing Department (CBC Printing) was established in 1984 and continues to provide the community and surrounding areas quality printing, copying, and mailing services. The Boys Club has provided the Printing Department the most modern technology available to the printing industry in an effort to maintain quality printing and affordable pricing to its customers.
In October 2010, former Printing Department Manager, Tommy Lambert, was selected to be the new General Manager for the Cherokee Boys Club. Trista Welch was promoted to the Manager’s position and Ronnie Long was selected as the Assistant Manager. This department currently runs production 12-16 hours a day.
The Printing Department also continues to offer vocational classes to the students of Cherokee High School. The department remodeled the Graphics Classroom to include new desks, chairs and a flat screen television making it possible for the instructor to provide tutorials to the students and use the newest design software available.
The Printing Department also takes part in summer youth employment through the Cherokee Boys Club’s Youth Training Program (also called the OJT program). This past year CBC Printing had the pleasure of employing Katlin Roberts and Jesse Toineeta through this program. Katlin is now a freshman at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and Jesse is a student at Cherokee High School.
BUS DEPARTMENT REPORT
The following information was provided by Allan Oocumma, Bus and Truck Department Manager, as a portion of the Club’s 2010-2011 Annual Report.
The Cherokee Boys Club provides all school bus and charter bus service for Cherokee Central Schools. The Club also provides charter bus service for surrounding area schools, churches and community organizations to all points in the United States.
For many years the Club has had an agreement with the Cherokee Historical Association to provide shuttle bus service and traffic direction for the nightly performances of Unto These Hills, the famous outdoor drama that portrays the history of the Cherokees. This agreement allows the Club to hire approximately 15 employees, mostly youth, for seasonal employment.
The Boys Club also has an agreement with the Tribal Roads Department to provide roadside mowing and trimming for the Reservation’s road system. Through another agreement with the Tribe, the Boys Club transported 812 loads of municipal solid waste to a regional landfill in Georgia during Fiscal Year 2010-2011. The Boys Club’s Bus Department added a 55-passenger bus to its motor coach fleet during this time.
The former Bus and Truck Department Manager, Noah Wolfe, retired in December of 2010. Allan Oocumma was selected as the Bus and Truck Department Manager and Albert Arch serves as Assistant Manager.
AGELINK CHILD CARE HAS OPENINGS FOR STUDENTS
The Club’s Agelink Department still has openings for all age groups except infants and toddlers (there is a waiting list available for these rooms). Please call 497-6726 to get more information on how to enroll a child.
Agelink will also begin their fundraising season on Friday, February 17 with a Chili Stack sale. Proceeds from the fundraising events will assist with costs for summer field trips for the children. More information will be provided before these activities occur.
FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES TO RELOCATE
The Family Support Services’ office on Goose Creek Road in the Birdtown Community will be moving to the Boys Club’s main campus in the near future. Renovations are being made to their new facility at this time but the move is expected to be completed within the next 60 days.
