The Cherokee Braves (4-12) edged the Robbinsville Black Knights (8-8) 53-52 on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Tre Owle led the way with 21 points followed by Tsaladi Sequoyah with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.
The Braves jumped out to a 20-6 lead after one period and took a 35-23 lead into the locker room at halftime. After being outscored 14-2 in the third period, they rallied and held off the Black Knights by one point.
Chris Daniels led the Black Knights with 15 points followed by Hunter Phillips with 8. Other Braves scorers included: J.T. Wildcat 7, Greg Bradley 6, and Tyler Williams 9 (4 assists). Other Black Knights scorers included: Blake Anderson 2, Cassidy Galaviz 4, Randy Hernandez 8, Jordan Orr 3, Luke Perkins 7, and Taylor Teesateskie 3.
The Lady Braves (14-3) did not fare as well as they fell to the Lady Black Knights (15-1) by 30 points – 76-46 – on Tuesday night. Cherokee, currently ranked #10 in the Freeman rankings of 1A schools, was led by Rayna Davis with 13 points. She was followed by Celine Lambert with 10 points and Tahnee Arkansas who had 6 points and 6 rebounds.
Tacey Trammell led Robbinsville with 33 points followed by Kristi Burchfield with 12. The Lady Black Knights have moved up to #3 in the Freeman rankings.
Other Lady Braves scorers included: Jordyn Thompson 4, Paige Jackson 4, Alexis Maney 4, Kayla Smith 2, Tashina Martin 2, and Elizabeth Wahnetah 1. Other Robbinsville scorers included: Morgan Clontz, Alison King 8, Kelsey Knight 4, Miranda Moody 1, Hillary Norville 4, Jade Teesateskie 3, and Katie Williams 9.
Cherokee’s games against Rosman and Asheville School were both cancelled due to the weather. According to school officials, the Asheville School game has been cancelled altogether and the Rosman game will be rescheduled.
