James Edward (Ed) Sharpe
WHITTIER – James Edward (Ed) Sharpe, 72, of the Ela Community, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009 at his residence. A native of Guilford County, he had lived in Swain County since 1966. He was the son of the late James Hamilton and Birdie Edwards Sharpe. He was a former pastor at Cherokee Baptist Church and since then, he was administrator of the Cherokee Elementery School and most recently, he owned Cherokee Publications.
He was the loving husband of Kay Meadows Sharpe; a loving father of two sons, James Edward Sharpe, Jr. and wife Brenda Conner of Nashville, TN, Robert A. Sharpe of Bryson City; two grandchildren, Zachary James Sharpe, Bailey Alexendra Sharpe; four sisters, Virginia Brueck of Crown Point, IN, Frances Lackey of Greensboro, NC, Elizabeth Carroll of Pleasant Garden, NC, and Vallie Mae Milloway of Pleasant Garden, NC.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Whittier United Methodist Church of which he was a member. Rev. David Baxter will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
