Donald “Red Hawk” Taylor
Donald “Red Hawk” Taylor, 54, of the Qualla Boundary was born November 12, 1954, went home to his Heavenly Father October 30, 2009 after an extended illness.
He is survived by his parents Frank and Charlotte Taylor, twin brother Pete taylor, brother Rod Taylor and wife Mary Jo, three sisters Lois Dunston and husband Richard, Gayle Guilford and husband Don and Lisa Taylor. He is also survived by nephews Alan Taylor, Sage Dunston and Josh Taylor, nieces Marlana Taylor, Quiana Wiggins, Vanessa Tiger, Erin Taylor, Cindi Guilford and numerous great nieces and nephews all of Cherokee.
Don was a graduate of Haskell Indian College and a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Frankfort, Germany. He had many hobbies that included vintage cars, stone and wood carving. He loved the outdoors looking for artifacts and stone to carve into unique art pieces. He also enjoyed meeting people and spent several years greeting tourists in downtown Cherokee as “Chief Red Hawk”. Don was very proud of his heritage, family and many friends.
Services were held at Rock Springs Baptist Church with visitation Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 5:00pm until midnight. Funeral Services were November 2, 2009 at 2:00pm with Rev. Greg Morgan and James “Bo” Parris officiating. Pallbearers were Alan Taylor, Sage Dunston, Josh Taylor, Dwayne Wiggins, Gene “Tunney” Crowe and Darrel Toineeta.
Long House Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements. Burial was in the Welch Family Cemetery.
