SMC Regular Season champs advance to Championship Game
One Feather staff report
With a 32-0 win over Andrews on a rainy Halloween night, the Cherokee Midgets advanced to the 2009 Cracker Bowl where they’ll face Murphy.
Jayce Wolfe scored three touchdowns on runs of 17, 50, and 34 yards to help lead the Braves to the championship game. Spencer McCoy added an 84 yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Gabriel Rodriguez had a 74 yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter.
Cherokee’s other two youth teams didn’t fare as well as the Termites lost to Jackson County at the Murphy venue 16-0 and the Mites lost to Jackson County at the Cherokee venue 6-0. In the Mites game, Jackson County’s Nick Ewart scored on a 35-yard run at the 6:54 mark in the 1st quarter. That would prove to be the only score of the game as the Jackson Co. Mites advanced to take on Swain in Saturday’s Cracker Bowl.
