Braves hold off Wildcats

With 140 yards on 5 catches and 1TD, Storm Sequoyah helped lead the Braves over the Wildcats on Friday, Oct. 30.

Storm Sequoyah caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from William Carmichael midway through the 4th quarter to lift the Cherokee Braves over the Andrews Wildcats 21-14 on Friday, Oct. 30.  The win, Cherokee’s second straight, brings the Braves to 6-4 on the season and sets up their final regular season game against Robbinsville (7-2) who is currently on a three game winning streak following convincing wins against Rosman, Hayesville, and Towns County.
     

Sequoyah led the Braves’ offense with 140 yards on five catches.  Carmichael rushed for 77 yards on 10 rushes, and Greg Bradley rushed for 80 yards on 8 rushes.  The touchdown pass was Carmichael’s only pass of the game. 
     

Following a scoreless 1st quarter, Andrews’ Tyler Pendergrast scored on a 2-yard run just minutes into the 2nd quarter.  The kick failed and the Wildcats took a 6-0 lead. 
     

The Braves came back as Carmichael scored his first of the night on a 6-yard run with just under three minutes left before halftime.  J.T. Wildcat added the extra point and Cherokee took a 7-6 lead into the locker room. 
     

The 3rd quarter was uneventful until Carmichael ran a punt 90 yards to the house for his second score of the game.  The extra point kick failed and Cherokee extended its lead to 13-6 going into the final quarter.
      

With seven minutes left in the game, Andrews would take the lead back as Nikko Williams ran it in from three yards out.  The two-point conversion was good and Andrews led 14-13. 
      

Less than a minute later, and Carmichael would connect with Sequoyah for  the game winning touchdown pass.  Carmichael added the two-point conversion as Cherokee held off the Wildcats 21-14. 
      

Christian Crowe led the Braves’ defense with 11 tackles followed by Buster Arch, J.T. Wildcat, and Forrest Stamper with nine each. 
      

The Braves were penalized 14 times for a total of 100 yards, and they lost five fumbles.  The Wildcats were penalized 10 times for 60 yards and they threw two interceptions.
