Cherokee High School officials announced on the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 13 that Sonita Warren-Dixon has been selected as the new 2016-17 Cherokee Braves basketball coach.

Cherokee’s cross-county rival, the Swain Co. Maroon Devils (2-5), defeated the Braves 35-16 at Ray Kinsland Stadium on Friday, Oct. 7.

The Cherokee Lady Braves varsity cross country team took first place out of three teams at the Asheville Cross Country Classic at Asheville Christian Academy on Saturday, Oct. 1.

The annual Cherokee Harvest Half Marathon and 5K event was held on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 1.

Cherokee (3-3) went to .500 on the season as they traveled to Murphy on Friday, Sept. 23. The Bulldogs (5-1) topped the Braves, riddled with injuries in several key positions, by a score of 42-13.
