The National Lacrosse League (NLL) announced on Wednesday, April 8 that the League will cancel the remainder of the regular season.

Colby Taylor, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and a student at Swain County High School, has been selected as the recipient of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s (NCHSAA) 2020 Pat Gainey Student Award.  

Tori Teesateskie, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, has been named a NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) DII Third Team All-American. 

Several members of the Cherokee Braves and Lady Braves varsity basketball teams have been named to the Big Smoky Mountain All-Conference teams. 

As organizations nationwide take precautions to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) has cancelled all events and practices through May 15. 

The Swain County Rec. Dept. was filled with the sounds of cheers and the sights of choreographed dances and stunts on the evening of Tuesday, March 10. 

Several members of the Cherokee Lady Braves and Braves varsity basketball teams, as well as the coaches of both of those squads, have been invited to participate in post-season all-star games.

Tori Teesateskie, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, is making her mark at the collegiate level in her freshman year with the Johnson University (Tenn.) Lady Royals.
