Will Bird is state champion. The Cherokee High School junior won three decisions in the 189lb. division including an overtime win by one point at this past weekend’s 1A State Wrestling Tournament held at the Greensboro Coliseum to secure his championship.

Dan “The Handler” Hornbuckle (22-3), an EBCI tribal member, will be in action this weekend as he enters the Bellator season 3 welterweight mixed martial arts tournament.
Lady Braves win Sectional Championship, advance to Regionals
The Cherokee Lady Braves varsity basketball team (23-4) won the Sectional Championship of the 2011 NCHSAA Women’s Basketball 1-A West Tournament by beating Highlands 53-32 on Friday, Feb. 25.
