It was a good night for Cherokee basketball as both varsity teams defeated visiting Highlands at home on Friday, Jan. 31. The Lady Braves (17-2), currently ranked #6 in the state Maxpreps.com poll, beat the Lady Highlanders 76-31, and the Braves (10-9) pulled above .500 on the year with a 71-50 victory.

Cherokee’s varsity basketball teams traveled to Blue Ridge, Ga. on Friday, Jan. 24 and came away with two wins. The Braves (8-9) won 67-47, and the Lady Braves (15-2) won big 77-31.

As the final buzzer echoed through the Rosman gymnasium on Thursday, Jan. 23, the spectators in attendance became witness to the remarkable 2013-14 run of the Cherokee Middle School Lady Braves basketball team.

Picking up where they left off in the regular season, the Cherokee Middle School Lady Braves overwhelmed the Murphy Bulldogs in the first round of the Smoky Mountain Conference tournament on Saturday, Jan. 25 by a score of 74-19.

The Smoky Mountain Roller Girls, about to enter their third year of existence, is an organization on the move…literally. They have grown in size in the past several years and have taken on fundraising challenges for two good causes in the area.
