Christian Ensley shot an 83 to finish first in the individual category and lead the Braves to victory in their final regular season match of the season at Sapphire National Golf Club in Sapphire on Tuesday, April 20.

Cherokee High School senior Christian Ensley carded an 80 to lead the Braves to a fifth place finish in the first round of the Smoky Mountain Conference tournament at the Cherokee Hills Golf Club in Murphy on Thursday, April 23.

While on the sidelines shooting photos this past week at the Lady Braves soccer match, I noticed something that I rarely, if ever, see at Cherokee High School football or basketball games – a sparse amount of fans.

Cherokee’s Kendall Toineeta and Xan Sadongei both won their individual events at a multi-school track meet at Swain County High School on Wednesday, April 22.

The Tallulah Falls Lady Indians got one goal against the Lady Braves on Tuesday, April 21, but it proved to be enough as they took a 1-0 victory over Cherokee.

Reagan Barnard, Lady Braves senior forward, will be a Valkyrie next season. She signed a letter of intent on Monday, April 20 to play basketball at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC.

Merritt Grace Van Meter, a Creek and Cherokee professional pole vault athlete currently training for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, visited with the 4th and 5th grade members of the Cherokee Youth Center over the course of several weeks to provide mentorship and promote healthy decision making skills.

Children will get to learn the basics of basketball at a camp this summer named in memory of a former Lady Brave.
