Three new ordinances were submitted during the EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) regular session on Thursday, July 10.
Cherokee Fire & Rescue Dept. commended for high state rating
Following a recent inspection by the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal, the Cherokee Fire & Rescue Dept. (CFD) has received a rating that ranks them in the top percentages in both the state and the nation.

One Feather wins 10 N.C. Press Association awards
The Cherokee One Feather won a total of 10 awards in the 2024 North Carolina Press Association Editorial and Advertising Awards announced on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 19 at the annual convention in Raleigh, N.C.
Endowment for Cherokee Hospital Foundation established at North Carolina Community Foundation
The Cherokee Indian Hospital Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports the well-being of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) by strengthening the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority and the clinics that comprise it, has a new endowment at the North Carolina Community Foundation that will provide ongoing support for hospital employees.

EDITORIAL: N.C. Commission on Indian Affairs unfairly attacks EBCI
There is a lot of opposition to the way the Lumbee are going about seeking their recognition. It is incredibly unfair for the N.C. Commission on Indian Affairs to single out Ugvwiyuhi Hicks and the EBCI and give the tribe the moniker of defamers and troublemakers.
COMMENTARY: The best present is your presence
Make a point of visiting a rest home or nursing home during the holidays. I know that sounds like an admonition, but it isn’t entirely. It should be a reminder and an incentive for compassion during this season of giving.
