Tribal member sentenced for string of hotel, business robberies
U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger sentenced Stephen Russell Dean McCoy, 27, an EBCI tribal member of Cherokee, on Thursday, Jan. 25 to 108 months in prison on federal charges stemming from a string of robberies of hotels and businesses across three counties, announced R. Andrew Murray, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.
Park welcomes record number of visitors in 2017
For the second year in a row, Great Smoky Mountains National Park welcomed over 11 million visitors. In 2017, a record 11,338,894 people visited the national park, which is a slight increase, 0.2 percent, over 2016.
Three plead in state court to robbing tribal elder

Recovery Act to help 4 Indian Schools
Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs Larry Echo Hawk announced Wednesday, April 28 that savings in the Indian Affairs’ American Recovery and Reinvestment Act construction projects will be used to start four additional high-priority school projects in Arizona, New Mexico and South Dakota.

Most teenagers are out on a Saturday night, watching movies, hanging out with their friends, looking for something to do, but for a group of Cherokee High School seniors, they boarded a Cherokee Boys Club charter bus on Saturday, April 17 at 10pm to travel to New York City for their senior trip.
