Teen drowns in Oconaluftee River
At approximately 5 p.m. on Monday, June 24, Great Smoky Mountains National Park rangers and Cherokee Search and Rescue responded to a report that a teenager didn’t resurface after he lost his footing in the Oconaluftee River behind the Mountain Farm Museum in Cherokee, N.C.

COMMENTARY: Tsalagi Minute signs would provide education around town
Several years ago, the One Feather started a weekly informational graphic we call the Tsalagi Minute. I think it would be neat to see Tsalagi Minute signs made, featuring some of these graphics, that could be placed around the Qualla Boundary – most specifically in and around downtown Cherokee and the cultural district.

The Atlanta Braves will host the third annual Native American All-Star Baseball Showcase at Truist Park, June 7-9. For Jody Bradley Lipscomb, her art is a way to connect with and educate others about her heritage. A member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), she has shown her paintings in numerous exhibits and shows and currently has several pieces in the “This Land Calls Us Home” at the Atlanta Airport.
