The Tribal Council of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) passed Ord. No. 369 (2022), which will allow for the creation of the General Welfare Exclusion (GWE) Program.

The Cherokee Central Schools (CCS) Board of Education held its final meeting of the year this past Monday, Dec. 5.

The Cherokee Nation is seeking a delegate in the U.S. House of Representatives that was promised in the Treaty of New Echota in 1835.  Richard G. Sneed, Principal Chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), thinks that all three federally recognized Cherokee tribes should be represented by a delegate or delegates in Congress. 

Former Tribal Council member Dennis ‘Bill’ Taylor appeared in his final pre-trial hearing at Cherokee Tribal Court on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Tribal officials of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) had a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the Chief Flying Squirrel Village on the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 30.  The housing development is located off of Acquoni Road in the Yellowhill Community.

Two Cherokee women are among the 2022 recipients of the Dogwood Award given annually by the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office. 

In lieu of a second monthly meeting, the Cherokee Central Schools (CCS) Board of Education held polls via email and cell phone message to wrap up any remaining business from November.

In October, representatives from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) made their way to eastern Kentucky for the groundbreaking of a new horse racing facility.
