The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) celebrated Earth Week (April 17-22) with several events on and around the Qualla Boundary encouraging knowledge of environmental and wildlife issues. 

“We’re not going to lose it. We’re not,” Bo Lossiah, New Kituwah Academy curriculum and instruction supervisor, told a crowd gathered following the Annual Cherokee Speakers Walk of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI). 

The next piece is in place for the 407: Gateway to Adventure project in Sevier County, Tennessee. Smoky Gap is the name of the newest attraction to the property owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. It is set to be completed by 2025, and an official groundbreaking was held on site on the morning of Tuesday, April 11. 

Kituwah, LLC will begin development of “Smoky Gap” on Tuesday, April 11, a unique entertainment district located within The 407: Gateway to Adventure in Sevierville. Smoky Gap will be the first of several phases of development and is expected to open in 2025.

EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) Enterprises, LLC will receive $64 million for its medical cannabis business for operational costs including staffing, increased infrastructure at its grow site, and to finish a retail facility. 

After several years of surviving, the Cherokee Historical Association (CHA) now wants to start thriving.

The Cherokee Central Schools (CCS) Board of Education hosted several guests at their meeting on Monday, April 3.

Tears flowed and people exclaimed for joy as Tribal Council passed legislation approving a referendum on a proposed Constitution for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
