USDA settles with Native Farmers on Discrimination Suit
A lawsuit filed in 1999 alleging discrimination by the USDA towards American Indian farmers has been settled. Marilyn and George Keepseagle, a married couple on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation filed the class action suit 11 years ago.
Cherokee Bottled Water budget not approved
Tribal Council approved the FY2011 budget for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians on Wednesday, Oct. 13 and Cherokee Bottled Water was not approved for funding for the upcoming year.
Cherokee Homestead Exhibit to open in Hayesville
There will be a formal opening of Hayesville’s Cherokee Homestead Exhibit on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 11am – 1pm. The exhibit is located just off the historic courthouse square adjacent to the Old Jail Museum, in Hayesville.
Cherokee Youth Council gets $7K contribution from Foundation
The Graham Foundation, a family foundation in Greenville, SC, has made an $8,000 donation to the Jones-Bowman Leadership Award Program and a $7,000 contribution to the Cherokee Youth Council.
