Smith gets 1 year for violating DV Protective Order
Richard Cecil Smith, 41, was convicted on Tuesday, Feb. 8 in the Cherokee Tribal Court for Violation of a Domestic Violence Protection Order. He was sentenced to one year imprisonment by the Honorable J. Matthew Martin.

Big Cove Resident oversees Tribal Mentoring Program
The Tribal Mentoring Program (TMP) at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino & Hotel has new energy. Karina Bottchenbaugh, an EBCI tribal member from the Big Cove Community, has joined the casino’s Talent Development Department as the new Career Development Specialist II-Tribal, who will oversee the TMP.
Tramper places at Hoop Dance Championship
Daniel Tramper, an EBCI tribal member, took 2nd place in the Senior Division at the 21st Annual Heard Museum Hoop Dance Championship Contest on Feb. 6.
Sequoyah Museum hosting Invasive Plant Lecture
The Sequoyah Birthplace Museum, located in Vonore, Tenn., is hosting a free lecture on Sunday, Feb. 20 with Interpretive naturalist, storyteller, and wild crafter Ila Hatter and Avi Askey, owner of the Overhill Gardens.
Mountain Erosion Control Training to be held
Two similar soil erosion control trainings are available to contractors in western North Carolina in early March. One is classroom-based and free, the other is in the field and has an admission fee.
