MRI unit opens at Cherokee Indian Hospital
Caesar’s Entertainment, Inc. presented a $2 million check for the purchase and five-year operation of a MRI machine to the Cherokee Indian Hospital in October 2012. Now, just a few months later, the machine is in place and patients are already benefiting from its use.
Two groups claiming Cherokee heritage seeking recognition in Virginia
Two groups in Virginia that claim Cherokee heritage are seeking state-recognition in that state’s General Assembly. The Appalachian Cherokee Nation of Virginia and the United Cherokee Indian Tribe of Virginia, Inc., aka Buffalo Ridge Band of Cherokee, are seeking recognition through Virginia Senate Joint Resolution No. 300 (SJR 300).
Repair work in full swing at landslide site
Heavy machinery and dump trucks are in full swing at the site of a January landslide in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park that has closed US 441 connecting Cherokee to Gatlinburg, Tenn. Phillips & Jordan, Inc., of Robbinsville, was recently awarded a $3.9 million contract from the Federal Highways Administration to rebuild the road.
