N.C. State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor and the N.C. Forestry Service briefed Governor Josh Stein on Friday, March 28 at the Tryon Equestrian Center in Polk County on ongoing fire activities and response efforts, including the three largest wildfires burning in the county.

Qualla Enterprises, LLC, and Great Smoky Cannabis Company have announced an historic collaboration with the Cherokee Indian Police Department (CIPD) to establish a new K-9 program.

The 6th Annual Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relative Walk led by the Qualla Boundary MMIW (QBMMIW) grassroots organization is coming up on Saturday, May 3 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., beginning at the Storyteller’s Fire Pit of the Oconaluftee Island Park.

The School Board of Cherokee Central Schools (CCS) met on Monday, March 17 in the Central Office Board Room. The meeting was called to order at 4:45 pm by Chairperson Jennifer Thompson.

The Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) uses a weighted vote system.

The Cherokee Police Commission met in the Cherokee Indian Police Department (CIPD) training room on the afternoon of Thursday, March 13.

The current governing document of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) is known as the Charter and Governing Document.  It was set in motion by the EBCI with Res. No. 132 (1986) on May 8, 1986. 

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) Natural Resources Department (NRD) and the Junaluska Museum are collaborating to conduct interviews with EBCI members to aid co-stewardship between the EBCI and the United States Forest Service (USFS). They are asking for the community’s help in providing input.
