Ordinances adding to criminal code introduced into Dinilawigi (Tribal Council)
Several ordinances dealing with adding crimes to the Cherokee Code of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) were deemed read and tabled during the Monday, Oct. 13 session of Annual Dinilawigi (Tribal Council).
Lumbee recognition not included in Senate-passed NDAA bill
The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, a state-recognized group, was hoping that federal acknowledgment would be one of the things included in the passage of a recent military spending bill, but it was not to be.

Marking a new chapter: EBCI holds Inauguration for Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) and School Board
Working together and unity were two of the themes as the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) held an inauguration for the 2025-27 Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) and two members of the Cherokee School Board. The event was held at the Charles George Memorial Arena in Cherokee, N.C. on the morning of Monday, Oct. 6.

A small piece of property located adjacent to the Noquisi Mound, sometimes referred to as the Nikwasi Mound, has been given a Cherokee name.
