Four EBCI tribal members have finished the North Carolina Native Leadership Institute (NCNLI) facilitated by the American Indian Center at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill

Western Carolina University students have provided representatives of local tourism interests in 26 Western North Carolina counties with data illustrating the impact of the travel and tourism industry on the economy of their particular counties.

Kara Martin, a 24-year-old EBCI tribal member from the Wolftown Community, has worn every single crown the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians has to offer. Now, she wants another crown…the one that says Miss Indian World.

Karen George, an EBCI tribal member and master fingerweaver, makes beautiful fingerwoven belts, sashes and garters using materials and techniques that were used frequently in the 18th Century. But, the history of Cherokee weaving goes back much farther than the 1700s.

The EBCI Transit team of Dennis Junaluska, Shan Standingdeer and Michael Jay Shell took first place in the team competition at the North Carolina Public Transportation Conference and Roadeo held April 5-6 in Charlotte.
