The Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA) is currently short-staffed and is planning a Job Fair to address this issue.  The event, which will feature on-the-spot interviews, will be held in the Welch Top Conference Room in the hospital on Monday, July 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The School Board of Cherokee Central Schools met on June 18 in the Central Office Board Room. The meeting was called to order at 4:46 pm by Chairperson Jennifer Thompson.

Three weeks after passing legislation banning individually-owned hemp/cannabis stores on the tribal trust lands of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) has reversed that decision. 

Members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) Tribal leadership attended the historic Tri-Council meeting recently, a significant gathering that unites the three sovereign Cherokee nations: the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians, and the Cherokee Nation.

At approximately 5 p.m. on Monday, June 24, Great Smoky Mountains National Park rangers and Cherokee Search and Rescue responded to a report that a teenager didn’t resurface after he lost his footing in the Oconaluftee River behind the Mountain Farm Museum in Cherokee, N.C.

The Cherokee Police Commission met at the Cornsilk Complex in Tutiyi (Snowbird) on Thursday, June 13. Chairperson Gene Tunney Crowe called the meeting to order.

Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) held a work session on June 11 to hear from community members and environmental organizations regarding issues surrounding the Ela Dam and the possibility of its removal.
