The Scare-okee Committee met recently near the BIA Parking Lot and Oconaluftee Island Park to iron out additional details of the layout of this year’s “Trick or Treat Night in Scare-okee” event.

The Center for Native Health recently received a $30,000.00 grant from the First Nations Development Institute of Longmont, Colorado. This award will support the efforts of The Center for Native Health’s ᎢᏯ ih ya: EBCI Youth River Cane Project.

The 2023 EBCI Cooperative Extension Office’s Annual Garden Contest awards were given on the evening of Monday, Sept. 18 at the Yellowhill Activity Center.  The contest judging occurred in the second week of July.

One of the most significant changes this year is the highly anticipated return of the beloved pageants, including the Teen Miss, Little Miss, Junior Miss, and the crowning jewel, the Miss Cherokee Pageant.

The Cherokee Language Master’s Apprentice Program (CLMAP) students from Robbinsville visited Old Chattooga Town deep in Sumter National Forest in South Carolina on Wednesday, Sept. 6. 

Hannah Broyer is a talent acquisition coordinator at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort. She graduated from Western Carolina University in May of 2023 with a degree in communication and a minor in marketing.

Paytyn Barker, a junior at Cherokee High School (CHS), has been selected as one of the state officers for North Carolina HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America).

The excitement is building as the 111th Annual Cherokee Indian Fair approaches, scheduled to take place from Oct. 3-7.  This year’s theme, “They Made The Way,” honors the profound contributions of Cherokee individuals, both historical and contemporary, who have played pivotal roles in shaping the vibrant culture of the community.
