MISS CHEROKEE 2016-17
Siyo, the month of February was a very fun month for me. I had the honor of attending the 2017 USET in Washington, D.C. While I was there I was able to tour the Cherokee Archives that the Smithsonian museum has. I got to meet the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). I was also able to attend a Senate meeting with many of our Council members.
Many people know of Wes Studi and for those that don’t, he is a very famous Cherokee actor. While in Washington, I got to meet him as well as watch the reading of a wonderful play he is going to be in. Before the week was over, I got a little time to do some sightseeing in our country’s beautiful capitol.
On Feb. 19, the Director of Business development for the Georgia Swarm, Mike Garrison, invited me to attend Native American Heritage night. I was able to meet and talk to 2016 NLL Rookie of the year player Randy Staats. I was then able to take part of the ball drop ceremony along with Junior Miss Cherokee Alitama Perkins, several Council members, and Vice Chief Richard G. Sneed. After the game was over, I got to meet and get my picture with some of the Native American players on the team.
My amazing dad’s birthday was Feb. 27. I would like to wish him a very happy birthday. Without his wise words and encouragement, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I love you dad!
This has been a wonderful year so far, and I look forward to representing our beautiful Tribe for the rest of my reign!
Sgi, thank you!
