RETIREMENT CONGRATULATIONS
The Staff of the Cherokee Boys Club wishes Tommy Lambert the very best upon his retirement. Tommy’s last day was Friday, Oct. 3. Tommy has given 30 years of his life to the Boys Club as Manager of CBC Printing and as General Manager. He will be greatly missed. Good Luck Tommy!
NEW BOARD, NEW GENERAL MANAGER
On Wednesday, Oct. 1, the 2014-2016 Board of Directors and the new General Manager for the Cherokee Boys Club were sworn in at an Installation Ceremony held at the Chestnut Tree Inn.
The new Board was elected in August of this year and will serve the term of Oct. 1, 2014 through Sept. 30, 2016. Board members elected were Albert Arch, Jack Davis, Beth Grant, Robert Lambert and Tiffani Reed. Jason McMillan was elected from the Cherokee High School student body to serve as the Student Representative on the Board. Cory Blankenship and Carmaleta Monteith were appointed by the Board as the two outside Business Members and Perry Shell will remain on the Board as the representative appointed by Tribal Council.
Skooter McCoy was also sworn in at this ceremony as the General Manager of the Boys Club. Skooter is a fourth generation Club employee following his great-grandfather Jess McCoy, grandfather Bud McCoy and mother Vickie McCoy. He will be the third person in Club history to hold the position of General Manager. Ray Kinsland, long-time General Manager, retired in 2010 after serving over 52 years; and Tommy Lambert, who succeeded Mr. Kinsland, has retired from the Boys Club after 30 years of service.
SCHOOL EARLY RELEASE
School will close early on Tuesday, Oct. 7 so the community can enjoy the Fall Festival Parade and activities. With the excitement of the Fair and the parade, coupled with traffic congestion caused by the road construction and detours on Acquoni Road and Hwy. 441, please keep in mind the safety of our children as they load and unload the school buses.
CLUB HOLIDAY
The Cherokee Boys Club will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 8, to celebrate Cultural Heritage Day. Business will resume as usual on Thursday, Oct. 9.
CHILDREN’S HOME NEWS
Cris Weatherford, Manager of the Cherokee Children’s Home, wants to announce that all of the children currently at the Children’s Home received A’s and B’s on their first progress reports from school. He is very proud of these kids and the staff that assists the children with their homework assignments and study habits each night!
Progress continues on the construction of the new Children’s Home in Birdtown. Please refer to the Boys Club’s Facebook page for periodic updates on the construction.

The Boys Club’s motto, By Prayer and By Work, has been with the Boys Club for many years. It has brought the Club through many a hard time. It has also been brought to our attention that many of the Club’s staff abide by these same words. If you ever find yourself needing words of encouragement, please feel free to repeat these words – By Prayer and By Work; it can only help!
