The MOU, established by Chief Hicks and then-UTK president Jan Schemic in 2008 – must be reviewed and renewed each year. It allows up to 20 EBCI tribal members to attend the university without paying “out-of-state” tuition. Currently, the Tribe has nine members enrolled in the university and has had as many as 14. Also shown in the photo are Tate McCoy (seated left), Tribal Education manager; Rachel Mathis (standing left), Tribal Education program; and Pam Straughan (standing right), Tribal Education and Training Program director.
