AGELINK CHILD CARE NEWS
Agelink will hold their graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 4 at the Acquoni Chapel at 7p.m. There will be six children graduating from the Pre-School 4/5 age group who will attend Kindergarten in the Fall.
PUBLIC NOTICE
Agelink Child Care Center will hold their public CCDF Hearing Thursday, June 13 at 6p.m. in the School Age Building Conference Room. The public is invited to attend.
OJT NEWS
The Boys Club is sponsoring the Summer Youth On-the-Job Training (OJT) program again this year. There were 40 applications from college and high school students hoping to be chosen to participate in the 2013 OJT Program. Since there was such a large response to this program, the Club decided to hire two extra students bringing the total to 15 instead of the 13 that were reported in last week’s Boys Club Report. These students will begin work on June 10 and will work through Aug. 2.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to all the students who have been and will be honored for athletic and academic achievements last week and in the coming weeks until the end of the school year. The Club especially sends their congratulations and best wishes to the 2013 Senior Class as they prepare for their graduation ceremony on Saturday. The Boys Club will help the seniors celebrate this special time by taking them to the Chestnut Tree Inn on Friday to have breakfast.
Thanks to all of the teachers, administrators, school staff, parents, School Board and volunteers for their dedication to our students and to Cherokee Central Schools.
WATCH OUT FOR THE CHILDREN
Please pay special attention to the school buses as they load and unload students during this time of year. The days are getting warmer and the children are anxious to get home to play outside. They may be distracted and not as careful as they normally are. Also watch out for them as they are riding bicycles, skateboards or playing in the road.
U.S. POSTAL SERVICE FOOD DRIVE A “HUGE” SUCCESS!
On Saturday, May 11, the U.S. Postal Service sponsored a food drive to benefit food banks across the nation. Our local Post Office placed paper bags in all of the mail boxes and post office boxes on the Reservation and asked the postal patrons to fill the bags with non-perishable food that would then be returned to the mail boxes for pick up by the mail carriers. This is the first year that Cherokee has participated in this drive and it was a HUGE success. William Thayer, Cherokee’s Post Master, was the organizer of the Food Drive. Family Support Services is grateful for the consideration given to their Food Pantry and greatly appreciates the participation from the residents of the Qualla Boundary.
MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY
Monday, May 27 is a Tribal, Club and School holiday. All offices will be closed to observe this special day. Memorial Day is a United States holiday that occurs every year on the last Monday in May. This is a day for remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate Soldiers who died in the Civil War. This day typically marks the start of summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.
