SANTA BRAVES TO KICK OFF 2012 CHRISTMAS SEASON
Members of the Cherokee High School athletic programs will be taking on their winter role as “Santa Braves” again this year to help collect non-perishable food items, unwrapped gifts for children in the community and cash donations to help purchase additional gifts and food for the Family Support Services’ Christmas Store and Food Pantry.
Several members of the Santa Braves will be participating in the Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 1 by pushing shopping carts through the crowd along the parade route to accept donations of food and gifts. Cherokee Athletic Director Craig Barker also helps coordinate these efforts with the students and staff of the schools. A station will be set up at the Dec. 7 home basketball game against Swain County to sell Santa Braves Stockings.
Coach Barker has also approved a station to be set up at the home basketball game against Mitchell on Dec. 13 whereby fans can attend the games with no admission charge if they bring two non-perishable food items or an unwrapped child’s gift to the game.
The Santa Braves coordinate their activities with Boys Club staff including Leslie Lossiah of the Family Support Services office, Trista Welch of the CBC Printing Department, and Tiff Reed and Terry Bradley of the Club’s Administration Department. If you would like more information about the Santa Braves, please call the Cherokee Boys Club’s main number at 497-9101 and ask for one of these representatives.
Please see next week’s Boys Club Report for additional news regarding the Christmas Store, Food Pantry and Santa Braves program.
