Fire management personnel at Great Smoky Mountains National Park reported on Tuesday, Nov. 20 that the Raven Fork Fire is now 100 percent contained. Firefighters from the Park and the Bureau of Indian Affairs worked jointly to manage the wildfire which was first reported on Nov. 18 in an area northwest of Big Cove Road and Raven Fork Overlook near Cherokee. Approximately 30 firefighters constructed control lines around the wildfire and conducted burnout operations containing the fire to a total area of approximately 90 – 100 acres.
Park firefighters will continue to monitor control lines and mop up hot spots throughout the burned area on Wednesday, Nov. 21. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Park roads and trails remain open in the area.
