In 2011, RTCAR (Revitalization of Traditional Cherokee Artisan Resources) sponsored six river cane harvesting trips to as far away as Kentucky. RTCAR contacts landowners and arranges permission to cut. Experienced and first time harvesters have gone on the excursions. Any Cherokee basketmaker interested in harvesting river cane for themselves or to assist someone else is invited to call RTCAR 554-6925 to be notified of our 2012 trips.
