The Rosman Tigers (4-5) and the Cherokee Braves (3-6) amassed a total of 747 total net yards during their game on Friday, Oct. 14. With 390 total yards, Cherokee outgained Rosman, but the Tigers came out on top on the scoreboard 50-32.
Ray Smith had a career night for the Braves completing 9 of 24 for 276 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs. His top target was TE Greg Tisho who caught six passes for 215 yards and 2 TDs. Tisho now leads all western North Carolina receivers with a yearly total of 42 catches for 891 yards and 9 TDs.
The first quarter was relatively tame with each team scoring once. Rosman’s Caleb Rice ran 64 yards for the first score of the game. He also added the extra point kick to make it 7-0 just 52 seconds into the game.
Cherokee would answer back as Smith hit Tisho on a 92-yard touchdown pass. The point after kick failed and the Tigers led 7-6.
Rice scored twice in the second quarter on runs of 2 yards and 1 yard. Then, with four minutes left, the Tigers Chaz West intercepted a Smith pass and returned it for a touchdown as Rosman took a 29-6 lead into the locker room.
Following a scoreless third quarter, both teams got geared up again and scored seven times between them.
Cherokee scored on a 5-yard run by Tisho, a 3-yard fumble recovery return for touchdown by Wesley Long, a 58-yard pass from Smith to Tisho and a 25-yard pass from Smith to Corbin Wright. Long was voted Braves Player of the Game by the CHS coaching staff.
Rosman scored on a 16-yard run by Duran Scruggs, a 29-yard run by Blaise McCall and a 26-yard run by Brody Mullenax to make the final score 50-32.
This Friday, Oct. 21, the Braves travel to Andrews (4-4) to take on the Wildcats who are coming off a 55-7 loss to Swain County. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
