Devona Reed, Cherokee Middle School, took second place at the area Middle School Cross Country Championship meet on Monday, Oct. 10 at Hiwassee Dam. She posted a time of 14:09.2.
Shawnda Martin, Robbinsville, won the meet with a time of 13:08.9 and Elizabeth Cambranis, Murphy, took third with a time of 14:12.3.
Cherokee did not post a team score as Reed was the only runner for the Lady Braves.
Robbinsville won the girls team championship with a score of 30. They were followed by Murphy 70, Hayesville 76, Swain 86 and Hiwassee Dam 114.
On the boy’s side, Brock Powell led the Braves with a ninth place finish and a time of 13:17.7.
Kurt McClure, Hayesville, won the meet with a time of 11:47.9. He was followed by teammate Adam Urbaniuk 12:06.7 and Jonathan Bowman, Murphy, 12:35.9.
Other Cherokee runners included: Shaderick Wolfe, 11th, 13:23.9; Isiah Davis, 18th, 13:54.6; Ethan Swearengin, 32nd, 14:45.4; and Gabe Crowe, 48th, 17:41.0.
Murphy won the team championship with a score of 37. They were followed by Murphy 38, Hayesville 76, Hiwassee Dam 85, Robbinsville 111 and Cherokee 118.
Cherokee plays host to several upcoming meets including the Smoky Mountain Conference Championship on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and the Regional Cross Country Meet on Saturday, Oct. 29.
