National Honor Society (NHS) arrives at Cherokee Central Schools as Cherokee High School begins its first chapter. Forty-five students have been invited to become members this fall. In order to receive an invitation, students must have a 3.375 or higher cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA), which they must maintain. Once initiated, members must complete twenty hours of community service per year, attend two arts and lectures events at local colleges and universities, like Western Carolina University, and hone their problem-solving skills by selecting a global issue to study and hypothesize possible solutions for, which they will present to the NHS Advisory Board. Inductions are slated to take place in November and April of this school year. Chapter Advisors are April Riser, Jim McNulty, and Nicole Jackson.
