This spring semester brought many new starts at the Oconaluftee Institute for Cultural Arts, Southwestern Community College’s fine arts program, including Brian Kane, OICA’s new program instructor.
“We are pleased to have someone of Brian’s caliber and professional background joining our program,” said Jeff Marley, OICA program coordinator.
Kane completed his BFA in Spatial Arts at Youngstown University in Youngstown, OH. He went on to get his MFA in Sculpture at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. Kane has taught at USC and most recently at the College of Charleston. While in Charleston he helped the Redux Contemporary Art Center organize summer camps for high school students who were considering pursing higher education in the fine arts.
Kane also brings business experience in the arts to the position. He has worked with the South Carolina Arts Commission, the Gibbes Museum of Art and the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston. Kane is also the owner of Charleston Fine Art Services, his fine art management business.
“Brian brings a broad spectrum of experiences from education to entrepreneurship to the position,” said Marley. “This type of knowledge is a great resource for our students.”
