Edwin James Smith, Sr., 87, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born April 13, 1923 in Cherokee, NC, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Smith and Sally Rogers Smith Bozolyok and the husband of the late Irene Bradley Smith.
He retired from Union Camp Corporation after 49 years of service, was a member of VFW Lodge # 9281 in Bryson City, NC, and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Giles and husband Howard of Campobello; a son, Edwin James Smith, Jr. and wife Diana of Moore; four granddaughters, Robin Bennett of Reidville, Karen Callot of Simpsonville, Mandy Nelson of Moore, and Sherry Rigouard of Raleigh, NC; a grandson, Travis Giles of Charlotte, NC; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Buford Smith, Leuna Sneed, Gilbert Smith, Gertrude Smith, Rachel Bancroft, Beatrice Walk, and Mickey Bozolyok.
Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel. Cryptside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum conducted by the Rev. Bo Parris and the Rev. Allen McKinney.
