The Cherokee Lady Braves (0-1) lost their season opener, in a home game, against the Swain Co. Lady Maroon Devils by a score of 15-1 on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 13. Swain scored 2 runs in the first inning and 1 run in the second before amassing 11 runs in the third to build a huge 14-0 lead. Each team added a run in the fourth.
Swain had a .515 batting average with 17 total hits on the day. They were led by Ashton Younce, junior, who went 3 for 3 with 3 hits, 5 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. Kenzie Eagleman, junior pitcher, got the win for Swain after pitching three innings. She struck out two batters and allowed four hits and no runs. Cherokee’s batting and pitching stats were not available.
